Just before I headed off to Valencia, I took a half day holiday and achieved two things. I packed my case in readiness for my holiday and then hopped onto a train into London. The plan was to meet an old friend but it was an evening that would change my destiny, but I knew little about it in the bright sunshine, as I made my way through Victoria Park to Newbury train station (The Home of Vodafone, as if you did not know). I caught the direct train to Paddington and met up with Preeti for lunch, well technically a very early evening meal I suppose. We first though had to find TEG! Yes, I had done some searches online and found the best currency exchange rate from Thomas Exchange Global. They just happen to have a company logo which spells out one of my prefered nicknames. We went to the Texas Embassy and afterwards I went to meet up with my friend in Covent Garden. While walking through Trafalgar Square I took a snap of Nelson’s Column, with the clear blue backdrop. Nelson's ColumnUnfortunately I had one of those moments when my internal navigation system had a seizure, so I had to be guided to the bar, but found it in the end. Apologetic, it was right down to tactics and pre-prepared questions (after Nush had got the first round in). We were early and felt as much but my lateness had eatened into valuable time. Out went the rather foolish questions I had used on my first attempt and then rather forgotten all about during my second attempt, some six months later. I thought I would give it one last try, I had nothing to lose and my mind was half on my holiday in any case. As usual with these events, I got distracted by my friend’s words just before we got going. As we walked through Charing Cross station I saw them again but the opportunity came and went. Nush told me, the moment had passed and to go back now would seem desperate. I would just have to wait until tomorrow to get the results but felt not confident but better for the experience. I had finally got around to putting myself out there again. For good or bad, I was making an effort. My mission now was to get back to Newbury. Not easy to do after around 10pm on a weekday, let alone weekend. The train I was hoping to catch directly did not appear on the departure boards, so I hoped on a train heading to Oxford via Reading. I text Lee, on the off chance that he would be online and able to check train times for me. It was not good, I would miss the next train from Reading by a matter of minutes. The last train was at midnight twenty, so I had to wait around for a good fifty minutes or so but burnt up the time listening to my Zen. Just like in December, there were many people about at this witching hour. Last Train HomeI got home just before 1am and went straight to bed (well after checking my e-mail and Facebook via wifi on my E65). I was only going to have about five hours sleep as I was going to the gym first thing on Thursday morning. My last day in the office before my holiday.
